Brazil CAPS mental health expansion

In late July 2026 Brazil’s municipal and state health authorities reported continued growth of the CAPS (Center for Psychosocial Care) network. Cuiabá announced the opening of two new CAPS facilities—one for children and adolescents and another serving the city’s north region—while also rolling out electronic patient records and upgraded IT equipment across its three municipal CAPS. The city highlighted these steps as part of Mayor Abílio Brunini’s effort to strengthen psychosocial care since taking office.

A few days later São Paulo detailed progress on a new CAPS Infantojuvenil center, now halfway through construction and entering the concrete phase. The planned 26‑room facility will provide multidisciplinary services to roughly 250 children and adolescents each month, including consultations, home visits, school outreach and therapeutic workshops. Together, the reports illustrate a broader push across Brazil to expand mental‑health infrastructure, modernize data systems, and increase capacity for youth services within the public health system.
