Brazil-Colombia 5G network rollout

In early July 2026, Claro began offering commercial 5G service in Pasto, Nariño, marking the first public rollout of the technology by the operator in Colombia. By the end of the month, attention had shifted to private network deployments across the region. In Brazil, Claro started building private 4G and 5G networks for large industrial customers such as Nestlé, Gerdau, Usiminas, Rumo and Petrobras, enabling low‑latency connectivity for robotics, IoT sensors, autonomous vehicles and AI‑driven analytics in mining, offshore and port settings. Simultaneously in Colombia, the National Spectrum Agency oversaw a trial of the 900 MHz band for private LTE, conducted by Empresas Públicas de Medellín. The test demonstrated reliable performance for smart‑grid, smart‑metering, substation monitoring and emergency communications, informing upcoming regulatory rules for private networks. Together, the snapshots illustrate a rapid expansion from consumer‑focused 5G services to industry‑targeted private LTE/5G solutions in Brazil and Colombia.
