Brazil fuel safety and consumer tools

In late July 2026 Brazil’s national petroleum regulator, the ANP, introduced a mobile application that lets users view detailed information on fuel stations—including inspection histories, fuel origin and quality ratings—and file complaints about price abuse or other irregularities. The same announcement noted that Colombia was moving to curb the use of unauthorized or homemade fuel tanks, imposing heavy fines and possible license suspensions.

A week later, the São Paulo state weight‑and‑measure agency (Ipem‑SP) launched its own digital platform that maps fuel pumps equipped with anti‑fraud technology, allowing consumers to verify that the volume of fuel delivered matches the amount paid. The agency also carried out safety inspections on a highway corridor, finding leaks, expired certifications and other violations on tank vehicles transporting hazardous fuels, and issuing fines under federal law. Together, the two actions illustrate a growing emphasis on digital transparency tools and stricter enforcement to improve fuel safety and consumer protection in Brazil (and, regionally, in Colombia).
