Brazil Ministry of Education accessibility initiatives
Overview
The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has launched several initiatives aimed at increasing accessibility and inclusivity within the national education system.
One initiative involves the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) accepting applications for the accreditation of entities to produce accessible materials, such as Braille-Ink works, for blind, low-vision, and deaf-blind students. Additionally, the Ministry outlined details for the 2025 Student Financing Fund (Fies), which provides low-interest financing for low-income students attending private higher education institutions.
Furthering its focus on specialized education, the MEC, through the Secretariat of Continuing Education, Youth and Adult Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion (Secadi) and in partnership with UNESCO, established a deadline for scientific article submissions to the Cadernos Equidade public call. This program aims to strengthen the National Policy on Bilingual Education for the Deaf (Pnebs) by encouraging knowledge production from academics, researchers, and deaf leaders.
