Brazil Ministry of Education policy initiatives
Overview
Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) has launched two distinct initiatives aimed at improving the school environment and professional welfare.
Through the ‘Escola que Protege’ (School that Protects) program, the MEC, in partnership with the Federal University of Sergipe, has opened registration for a national instructor training program. This initiative focuses on restorative practices to resolve conflicts through dialogue and active listening rather than punitive measures.
Simultaneously, the MEC has established a working group via Ordinance No. 725 to address the occupational health and working conditions of early childhood education teachers. This group, composed of representatives from various educational councils and unions, is tasked with gathering scientific evidence to develop policy recommendations regarding ergonomics and health over a period of approximately 120 to 150 days.
