Brazil municipal road closures

In early July 2026 municipal authorities in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, blocked streets to secure the marathon route, while Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, imposed a ten‑day parking ban to keep a half‑lane open for BRT construction. Two weeks later Apucarana, Paraná, closed a segment of Avenida Minas Geraldes between the Unespar campus and the Metalúrgica Mecol plant to continue duplication works delayed by rain.

On 27 July the municipality launched the fourth phase of the Avenida Minas Geraldes duplication project. Traffic was reduced to a single lane and drivers were rerouted while the road base was dried, a fresh hot‑mix asphalt layer was laid, and electric poles were repositioned. The phase aims to complete the pavement reconstruction, improve road safety and restore full traffic capacity for local commuters.

These coordinated, temporary restrictions across several Brazilian municipalities illustrate a recurring strategy of using short‑term road closures and parking bans to accommodate major events, public‑transport upgrades and road‑maintenance projects while minimizing congestion.
