Brazil Operation Zargun obstruction investigation

Overview

The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court is processing a criminal case involving the obstruction of ‘Operação Zargun’, a police action initiated in September 2025 to dismantle the Comando Vermelho criminal organization.

Initially, Minister Alexandre de Moraes voted to accept a criminal complaint from the Prosecutor General's Office, naming several individuals as defendants. The investigation alleges that federal judge Macário Ramos Júdice Neto leaked sensitive information regarding the operation to Rodrigo Bacellar, the former president of the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly. This leak allegedly enabled former state deputy Thiego Raimundo dos Santos Silva, known as ‘TH Joias’, to remove assets from his residence before law enforcement arrived.

Following the initial complaint, the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court unanimously decided to indict Bacellar, TH Joias, and Judge Macário Ramos Júdice Neto. The indictment follows the votes of ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Cármen Lúcia, Cristiano Zanin, and Flávio Dino. The three individuals have reportedly been detained since the latter half of 2025.
