Brazil police investigations of missing women
Overview
In late July 2026 Brazilian police opened investigations into two separate disappearances of women in the southeastern states of São Paulo. Cristiane Encide Ferreira vanished while walking to work in Sorocaba’s Vitória Régia district, with her last confirmed sighting on 9 June at a guesthouse in Cachoeira Paulista. In Resende, 29‑year‑old Ana Luiza Silveira Fernandes was last seen on 20 May after leaving home for a convenience‑store shift; her husband reported she had been experiencing anxiety. Authorities dismissed a circulating social‑media claim as false and urged anyone with information to come forward.
A week later, police in Brazil’s northern region reported two unexplained female deaths. Luziane Almeida, 39, known locally as “Sammy Castelo,” was found dead in Coari, Amazonas; initial reports suggested suicide, but forensic findings were inconclusive and possible scene tampering was noted. In Acre’s Tarauacá, municipal employee Clicya Correia, 35, was discovered dead at home. Both cases are under investigation by the respective state civil police forces.
Across these incidents, Brazilian law‑enforcement agencies continue to probe missing‑person and death cases involving women in disparate parts of the country, seeking forensic clarity and public assistance while families await answers.
