Brazil riverine health outreach
Entities: Médio Pantanal region · Médio Pantanal · Prefeitura de Corumbá · Povo das Águas program · Programa Social Povo das Águas
Overview
In early July 2026, a health outreach initiative in Magé, Brazil, under the Projeto Águas da Guanabara program, provided medical assistance to more than 200 local fishermen. Later that month, the municipal "Povo das Águas" program in Corumbá expanded the effort, delivering 2,759 health, social and citizenship services to riverine communities across the Médio Pantanal. The Corumbá outreach included medical, nursing, dental consultations, vaccinations, food assistance, document updates and educational talks, reaching settlements such as Colônia Cedro, Cedrinho, Corixão and others. Both actions illustrate continued municipal attempts to extend public services to traditionally isolated riverine populations in Brazil.
