Brazil Semana da Pátria celebrations

Municipalities across Brazil are conducting various activities to mark the 2026 ‘Semana da Pátria’ (Homeland Week) in preparation for Independence Day on September 7.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the ‘Fogo Simbólico da Pátria’ (Patriotic Symbolic Fire) arrived in Farroupilha and Salto do Jacuí. In Farroupilha, the flame was received by local officials and representatives from the Fire Department and Military Brigade, with scout groups designated to guard the flame until August 31. The celebrations in Salto do Jacuí honor the 400-year history of the ‘Sete Povos das Missões’ and the 185th anniversary of the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police.

Other regions are also organizing commemorative events. In Farroupilha, the local government and Secretariat of Education scheduled a Scout Council Fire for August 31. In Dourados, the Secretariat of Municipal Education planned a program starting September 1, featuring a relay of the Flame of the Homeland involving students, cultural presentations, and military band performances, all leading toward a civic-military parade on September 7.
