Brazilian audit courts report irregular accounts to election
Overview
Audit courts in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Ceará have submitted extensive lists of public managers with rejected or irregular accounts to their respective Regional Electoral Courts. These actions are intended to assist the electoral justice system in evaluating candidate eligibility for upcoming elections.
In Bahia, the State Court of Accounts (TCE-BA) and the Municipal Court of Accounts (TCM-BA) provided details on 602 managers whose accounts were rejected over the previous eight years. This documentation, which includes 743 entries from the TCE-BA and 680 processes from the TCM-BA, has also been forwarded to the Public Ministry of Bahia for potential investigation into crimes against public administration.
In Ceará, the State Court of Accounts (TCE-CE) submitted a list involving 2,546 managers and 3,441 processes related to municipalities and the state. TCE-CE President Rholden Queiroz stated the move aims to increase transparency and allow voters to make informed decisions. While the lists provide data on irregularities and debts, the Electoral Court must individually analyze each case to determine if the Ineligibility Law applies.
