Brazilian law enforcement operations against organized crime

Overview

Law enforcement operations in Brazil have targeted organized crime activities involving weapons and narcotics. On August 8, a joint operation between the civil police of Paraná and São Paulo, titled ‘Operation Sillas’, dismantled a clandestine weapons factory in Cambará, Paraná. This operation led to the arrest of 11 individuals and revealed a coordinated effort where the Paraná group produced and assembled artisanal weapons while a São Paulo-based group handled drug storage, marketing, and logistics. Authorities seized ammunition, narcotics, and firearms during the crackdown.

Following this, on August 17, Military Police in the Paraisópolis neighborhood of São Paulo discovered a hidden arsenal concealed within a false wall during a routine patrol. The seizure included 116 rounds of ammunition, 17 ballistic vests, magazines, and tactical equipment, alongside machinery and containers used for preparing drugs. While no arrests were made during the Paraisópolis discovery, investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the materials.
