Brazilian marathon prize announcements
Overview
Major marathon events in Brazil have announced significant prize pools and logistical details for their 2027 editions.
The Maratona Internacional de Campo Grande, now part of the World Athletics calendar, has set a prize pool of R$ 100,000 for its 42 km race, to be shared among the top five finishers in both men’s and women’s categories. This marks the largest prize money ever offered for a marathon in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The sixth edition is scheduled for July 3–4, 2027, featuring a two-day program. Organizers noted that the first-place prize has increased by 525% compared to the 2026 edition. The course is designed with negative net altimetry to assist runners in achieving personal records.
The second Paraná International Marathon, scheduled for March 26–28, 2027, has announced a total prize pool of R$ 581,000. The event will feature a new starting location in Guaratuba to improve athlete flow, with the course highlighting the Guaratuba Bridge. For the 42 km race, the top five finishers in each category will receive prizes ranging from R$ 3,000 to R$ 50,000. The event also includes specific bonuses for record-breaking performances, offering R$ 100,000 for new Brazilian records in the 42 km category and R$ 25,000 for the 21 km category. The marathon will offer 30,000 spots across various distances, including 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and a children's race.
