Brazilian municipal asset auctions

Overview

Municipalities in Brazil are conducting public auctions to sell surplus assets, including vehicles, heavy machinery, and scrap materials, to generate revenue for public improvements.

In early August, Vera in Mato Grosso announced an auction for 35 lots of vehicles and machinery valued at approximately R$ 932,700, intended to cut maintenance costs. Arroio do Meio in Rio Grande do Sul also scheduled an electronic auction for various equipment and vehicles to reinvest proceeds into the town’s fleet.

By late August, other cities joined these efforts. Osório scheduled an auction for September 4 featuring an asphalt plant and various vehicles, while Ibirapitanga prepared to sell unserviceable machinery to fund priority sectors such as education, health, and housing.
