Brazilian political proposals for rural and security sectors

Political candidates in Brazil are proposing various measures to support the rural sector and enhance public security.

In Mato Grosso, Federal Deputy and Senate candidate Zé Medeiros (PL) has proposed legislation that would require inmates convicted of property crimes against rural producers to work to provide financial restitution to their victims. This measure would allow judges to monitor inmate wages to cover losses such as stolen livestock, machinery, or agricultural supplies, while also counting the labor toward the prisoner’s progression through the penal regime. Medeiros argues that the law should ensure victims are not forgotten by the State.

In a related political development in Mato Grosso, the Mayor of Rondonópolis, Cláudio Ferreira (PL), has declared his active support for Medeiros’s Senate candidacy. Ferreira emphasized the need for a representative in Brasília focused on municipalist agendas and a firm stance against the Workers’ Party (PT). This announcement highlighted internal divisions within the Liberal Party (PL) in Mato Grosso, as Ferreira’s support notably omitted any mention of Wellington Fagundes’s potential candidacy for the state government.

In Rondônia, candidate Marcos Rogério has proposed amnestying fines applied to rural producers if irregularities were caused by state negligence or bureaucratic delays. His platform also includes public security initiatives such as ‘Protected Commerce’ and ‘Protected School’ programs, which aim to increase preventive policing and patrols in commercial and educational areas.
