Brazilian state and federal election campaigns intensify

Overview

By late August 2026, political campaigns across several Brazilian states transitioned into large-scale public mobilizations. In the Distrito Federal, incumbent Governor Celina Leão emphasized her administrative autonomy, stating, “I have no commitment to anyone's error,” while candidate Ricardo Cappelli challenged her to a debate regarding the industrial sector.

Campaign activities intensified in Maranhão and Amazonas. In Maranhão, Orleans Brandão and Edivaldo Holando Júnior held large-scale rallies in São Mateus and São Luís. In Amazonas, David Almeida, Maria do Carmo, and Roberto Cidade engaged in community walks in Manaus, with Almeida pledging to visit numerous municipalities to discuss infrastructure and security.

In Acre, Senator Alan Rick, Tião Bocalom, and Júnior Feitosa initiated campaigns through motorcades and public meetings. In Rondônia, Cirone Deiró and Noeli launched campaigns for vice-governor and state deputy via vehicle sticker events.

In Goiás, polling and internal coalition tensions have intensified. Recent Quaest and Real Time Big Data polls indicate Gracinha Caiado (União Brasil) leads the Senate race with between 21% and 27% of intended votes, followed by Gustavo Gayer (PL) at 12% to 17%. The race is marked by friction, as Gustavo Mendanha (PRD) has criticized Caiado’s inexperience, while Caiado has accused Mendanha of misogynistic conduct.

For the governorship, Daniel Vilela (MDB) leads with 37%, followed by Marconi Perillo (PSDB) at 20% and Wilder Morais (PL) at 12%. In the presidential race, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) leads with 32%, ahead of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) at 27% and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at 20%. Other names being tested include Pablo Marçal and Romeu Zema.
