Brazilian state transit department modernization

Overview

Transit departments in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso (Detran-MT) and Rondônia (Detran-RO) are implementing various regulatory and digital updates to improve service efficiency.

In Mato Grosso, authorities have begun applying a federal resolution from the National Transit Council to simplify the renewal process for driver's licenses that have been expired for over five years. This measure removes the requirement for refresher courses or updated exams to reduce bureaucracy. Additionally, Detran-MT continues to utilize an appointment-based system to manage its daily volume of approximately 16,000 services.

In Rondônia, Detran-RO is expanding its digital capabilities through a service center that allows citizens to manage vehicle and driver's license issues via mobile devices or computers. These digital services include vehicle status checks, appointment scheduling, vehicle sales authorization, and the generation of digital documents. The agency also maintains social programs, such as providing adapted vehicles for people with disabilities to participate in driving lessons and exams.
