Brazilian wage trends by age
Overview
In late July, Brazil’s Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Profissional e Empreendedorismo (Sedepe) published 773 new job openings across Pernambuco, with salaries ranging from roughly R$1,621 to R$4,000 per month. A concurrent study by Senior Sistemas surveyed nearly one million workers and found that average monthly earnings peak at R$5,512 for employees aged 46‑55, while the overall average salary rose 8.3 % year‑over‑year to R$4,704.
The August report reinforced this pattern, noting that younger workers (18‑24) earn about R$1,800 but experience the fastest annual wage growth at 10.6 %. Earnings increase with experience, reach a mid‑career high in the late 40s, then modestly decline after age 55 as many reduce hours or retire partially. ProftLab’s estimates placed average monthly wages at R$2,700 for ages 25‑34, R$3,600 for 35‑44, and R$3,900 for 45‑54. The IBGE recorded a real average monthly income of R$3,225 for all Brazilian workers in 2024.
The studies also highlighted a gender pay gap, with women earning on average 16.8 % less than men. Together, the data illustrate a broader trend of rising wages, pronounced age‑related earnings peaks, and persistent gender disparities in Brazil’s labour market.
