Breast cancer awareness campaigns in Bulgaria
Overview
In October, various healthcare initiatives were launched in Bulgaria to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection.
In Veliko Tarnovo, the Society for Breast Imaging and the Zonta Club Veliko Tarnovo presented a campaign titled ‘Self-Examine! Early diagnosis can save your life!’. The event included discussions with medical professionals and a screening of the documentary ‘Flower in a Storm’. Experts noted that while over 4,000 people in Bulgaria are diagnosed annually, the disease is treatable in 97% of cases if detected early.
In Pleven, the Medical Center ‘Sveta Marina – Diagnostics and Therapy’ announced free echomammography screenings specifically targeting women aged 18 to 30. This initiative follows reports of a significant increase in breast cancer cases among Bulgarian women under 30, with rates rising by over 90% in recent years.
