British Columbia gang enforcement unit expansion

Overview

Law enforcement agencies in British Columbia have established new specialized units to combat organized crime and gang activity.

In mid-October 2026, the North District Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (ND UGET) was officially launched at the BC RCMP North District headquarters in Prince George. This unit is intended to support law enforcement across northern regions, including the Cariboo and Chilcotin, building upon previous deployments by the Lower Mainland unit that resulted in significant seizures of firearms, drugs, and illicit proceeds.

Concurrently, the Kelowna RCMP’s Gang Enforcement Team (KGET) transitioned from a pilot project to a permanent operational unit. Following a pilot phase in early 2026 that saw the seizure of over 12 kg of suspected drugs and 215 weapons, the permanent four-member team has continued to focus on drug trafficking, firearms offences, and disrupting criminal networks through financial asset identification and civil forfeiture.
