Britney Spears unreleased song release

Overview

Britney Spears has released ‘She’ll Never Be Me’, an unreleased song originally recorded in 2001 during the sessions for her self-titled third studio album. Co-written with Justin Timberlake, Bradley Daymond, and Alex Greggs, the track explores themes of moving on from a past relationship, specifically addressing an ex-partner attempting to replace her. The song features Timberlake on backing vocals.

The track was originally omitted from the 2001 album because producers felt there was sufficient high-quality material for the final tracklist. Its release serves as a precursor to the ‘Britney (25th Anniversary Edition)’, a luxury reissue scheduled for release on November 6. This special edition is expected to feature five previously unreleased recordings: ‘She’ll Never Be Me’, ‘Am I a Sinner’, ‘When I Say So’, ‘My Big Secret’, and a studio version of ‘Right Now (Taste The Victory)’, which was previously used in a 2002 Pepsi advertisement.

While this release marks her first new music since a 2023 collaboration with will.i.am, Spears has indicated on social media that she does not plan a formal return to the music industry, noting that these recordings date back to 2001. Prior to this official release, the track had only circulated unofficially online.

Following the release, some observers noted that because Spears sold her music catalog in early 2024, she may no longer have direct control over such releases. Additionally, some fans have called for a boycott, citing concerns over Justin Timberlake profiting from the song's release.
