Bucharest Metro Line 6 construction

Overview

Construction of Bucharest’s Metro Line 6, intended to connect the capital to Henri Coandă International Airport, has reached several technical milestones. In the southern section, the tunnel boring machine (TBM) ‘Sfânta Maria’ arrived at the future Expoziției station after excavating approximately 3.67 kilometers of the 6.6 kilometers required to reach the 1 Mai station. A second machine, ‘Sfânta Ana’, is also progressing toward the same station.

Work has expanded to the northern section, where tunnel drilling has commenced using two TBMs, ‘Sfânta Parascheva’ and ‘Sfânta Ecaterina’. These machines will initially drill from the future Bruxelles station toward Tokyo station before being redeployed to drill toward Otopeni Airport.

As of late October, the southern section of the project has reached approximately 78% physical completion, while the northern section is roughly 34% complete. The total 14-kilometer project is estimated to be finished in the first half of 2029.
