Budapest police security sweep

Budapest’s police launched a 30‑day intensified public‑safety operation in late July. In the first week, more than 400 officers carried out street checks, registering 712 residents, arresting 33 people and summoning another 33 for questioning, while issuing fines and citations for garage‑related crimes, theft, drug offences and other violations.

During the second week, the focus shifted toward traffic safety and public order in District VI. Police checked 2,907 individuals, arrested 63, and summoned 56 for further action. The crackdown targeted drunk driving, illegal electric‑scooter use, bus‑lane violations, red‑light running, noisy modified vehicles and public drinking, resulting in numerous on‑site fines, administrative and criminal complaints, and municipal penalties.
