Buenos Aires Bares Notables expansion
Overview
In late July 2026 the Buenos Aires City Ministry of Culture announced a new documentary series, “La Ruta de Los Notables,” and a ceremony scheduled for 4 August to award diplomas to twelve cafés, bars and confiterías newly added to the city’s Bares Notables catalogue. The announcement listed the venues to be honored and highlighted their historic and cultural significance.
A week later, on 7 August, the city reported that the ceremony had taken place as planned. The twelve establishments—El Portuario, Josephina’s Café, Vía 71, Confitería El Greco, Bar Conde, La Escuela, La Orquídea, Plaza Café, Café Rivas, La Ópera, Boca a Boca and Café Cortázar—were formally recognized, bringing the total number of Bares Notables to ninety. The event also marked the launch of the documentary series, which surveys the iconic venues and their role in Buenos Aires’ cultural identity.
