Buenos Aires electric taxi fleet modernization
Overview
The Government of the City of Buenos Aires is working to modernize its taxi fleet by promoting the use of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. To support this transition toward cleaner public transport, Banco Ciudad has introduced a specialized financing line for taxi and private hire (remise) drivers.
The credit program offers loans of up to $28 million, covering up to 70% of a vehicle’s value, with a fixed annual nominal rate of 20% and repayment terms lasting up to 48 months. Officials noted that electric taxis incur operating costs roughly 20% of those for gasoline or CNG vehicles and require less maintenance.
Fiscal incentives accompany the financing: electric vehicles receive a permanent 100% exemption from patent taxes, while hybrid vehicles are exempt for their first two years of circulation.
