Following the addition of approximately 3 GWh of storage capacity in 2025, installed capacity doubled to 8.6 GWh by May 2026. The technology is already impacting the national grid; in the first half of 2026, solar energy combined with battery storage covered an average of 24% of Bulgaria's electricity demand between 19:00 and 21:00, compared to zero during the same period in 2023. Between 19:00 and 07:00, stored solar energy accounted for approximately 10% of total electricity consumption. Theoretically, the added capacity is sufficient to transfer 77% of the country's new daily solar production to hours without sunlight.
