Bulgarian presidential election candidate developments

The field of candidates for the upcoming Bulgarian presidential elections, scheduled for October 25, is expanding through various registration processes.

Volen Siderov, leader of the Ataka party, and security expert Slavcho Velkov announced their intention to run as independent candidates via an initiative committee. Velkov stated their objective is to turn the presidency into a “corrective force in politics” rather than maintaining the status quo. They are currently working to meet technical requirements and signature collection deadlines.

Concurrently, the Velichie Party has officially submitted its registration documents and approximately 7,000 signatures to the Central Election Commission. While the party has not yet named its specific presidential and vice-presidential candidates, other contenders have emerged, including Iliana Yotova and Kiril Valchev, former caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov with Georgi Kandev, Radostin Vasilev of the MECH party with Krasimir Manov, and Nikolay Nenchev of BZNS with Tsveta Kirilova.
