Bulgarian volunteer emergency response initiatives

Overview

In late August 2026, the National Association of Volunteers in the Republic of Bulgaria (NADRB) launched a large-scale initiative to enhance fire response readiness across more than 100 small towns and villages. Supported by the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation, the project focuses on prevention and community capacity through the construction of fire depots and the provision of training for local mayors and administrators in regions such as Blagoevgrad, Sofia, Haskovo, Lovech, and Pazardzhik.

Following this initiative, the ‘Plovdiv 112’ volunteer formation, operating under the Plovdiv Municipality, conducted a practical demonstration of emergency response capabilities at Stefan Stambolov Square. The demonstration showcased protocols for fires and natural disasters, including life-saving maneuvers, first aid, and the use of specialized technical equipment, such as high-mobility vehicles designed for difficult terrain.
