Bundeswehr Eurofighter relocation exercises

Overview

The German military, Bundeswehr, has been conducting exercises involving the relocation of Eurofighter fighter jets to civilian airports to practice dispersed operations.

In early October, the military held the ‘Dispersed Operations’ exercise at Nuremberg Airport. This maneuver involved 74 planned takeoff and landing operations to practice defense scenarios by moving aircraft from the Neuburg an der Donau air base to civilian infrastructure. The goal was to prevent aircraft from becoming concentrated, high-value targets and to optimize cooperation between military units and civilian institutions.

In November, similar training took place at Weeze Airport on the Lower Rhine. Eurofighters were deployed from the Nörvenich airbase to practice cooperation between military and civilian personnel regarding tower operations and technical tasks such as refueling. In both instances, authorities implemented measures to minimize noise pollution and disruptions to civilian flight operations.
