CAF member association funding increase
Overview
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in annual financial support for its 54 member associations. Under the leadership of President Patrice Motsepe, annual funding per association will rise from $200,000 to $700,000, representing a 250% increase in subventions over the last three years.
This initiative is intended to strengthen football administration, governance, and development across the continent. Specific goals include investing in youth and women’s football, improving institutional capacity, and supporting grassroots programs and domestic competitions. The reforms aim to help associations, such as the Ghana Football Association and the Nigerian Football Federation, become more world-class and financially self-sustaining.
In addition to the increased member association funding, CAF Zonal Unions will see a 20% increase, rising from $750,000 to $900,000. The African Clubs Association (ACA) will also receive an increased allocation, moving from $400,000 to $500,000 annually. CAF has expressed a long-term goal to eventually increase these annual subsidies to $1 million per member, depending on the growth of commercial revenue and partnerships.
