CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers
Overview
The 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers in Botswana featured competing performances from the Malawian side Silver Strikers Ladies.
In their opening Group B match, Silver Strikers Ladies achieved a 2-1 comeback victory against Mozambique’s Costa do Sol. After conceding an early goal, the Malawian champions equalized via an Ireen Khumalo free-kick and secured the win with a late goal by Grace Kakagula following a red card for Costa do Sol.
However, the team faced a setback in their subsequent match, losing 3-0 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies. Karabo Dlamini scored twice in the first half, with goals in the 11th and 19th minutes, before Isabella Ludwig added a third in the 51st minute. Coach Patricio Kulemeka noted that his team struggled to control the midfield and allowed Sundowns to exploit open spaces.
Despite the loss, Silver Strikers Ladies successfully advanced as runners-up in Group B, making history as the first Malawian team to reach the semi-final stage of these qualifiers. They are now set to face Zambia’s Zesco Ndola Girls in the semi-finals. Zesco Ndola Girls secured the top spot in Group A following a 2-0 victory over Gaborone United, with goals from Charity Mubanga and Avell Chitundu. While the Zambian side holds a statistical advantage, Coach Kulemeka expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to reach the final.
