Cairo Metro Line 4 construction

Overview

Egypt is advancing the construction of the Cairo Metro Line 4, a 19 km strategic infrastructure project designed to expand the nation’s sustainable mass transit network. The first phase includes 17 stations, with 16 located underground and one at the surface, connecting key areas such as the Grand Egyptian Museum, Giza, and Al Fustat.

Initial reports highlighted the simultaneous use of six tunnel boring machines to construct the tunnels. The project involves a consortium of national Egyptian companies for construction and electromechanical works, with a Mitsubishi/Orascom alliance managing systems and track work.

Following construction progress, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected the project, including a large-scale heavy overhaul workshop designed for train maintenance and storage. As of mid-September, five trains have arrived for testing, while additional units are undergoing factory testing, assembly, or manufacturing.
