Calabria transport infrastructure disputes

In late July, regional transport groups in Calabria protested their exclusion from a newly formed institutional table overseeing urban public transport, accusing the regional government of sidelining local institutions and workers. Consumer association Codacons highlighted documentation gaps, design contradictions, and financial, environmental and safety concerns in the “Autoporto Verde” scheme, questioning the use of €8.275 million in residual funds. Simultaneously, provincial councillor Antonio Uva called for the reinstatement of the “Aeroporto della Sibaritide” project within the Regional Transport Plan, urging fresh feasibility studies and a coordinated institutional table to assess its potential for tourism, agri‑food and logistics development.
