Cambridgeshire zoo crocodile enclosure incident
Overview
On June 18, a three-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a zoo near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. The child sustained severe injuries, including broken bones, nerve, tendon, and blood vessel damage, requiring multiple surgeries. Following a month-long hospital stay, the boy has been discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was released on bail after being assessed as unfit for interview. His police bail has since been extended until December 17.
As the investigation continues, Norfolk County Council has launched a Section 42 inquiry to determine if the suspect, who is believed to have learning difficulties, was being neglected or abused while in care. At the time of the incident, the man was reportedly on a trip with two carers.
