Cameroon municipal funding and development initiatives
Overview
Cameroon is implementing various financial initiatives to support municipal development and local governance. In September 2026, FEICOM allocated 10.11 billion FCFA to 79 municipalities across all ten regions through its Climate Window. This funding, which follows a 2025 allocation of nearly 6 billion FCFA, is designed to integrate climate change mitigation into local development via projects such as drainage networks, water supply systems, and solar infrastructure.
Simultaneously, the government has expanded its recognition of municipal performance. During the second edition of the Awards for Model Councils in the Execution of Public Investment Projects, ten municipalities—one from each region—each received 50 million CFAF. This year’s total award envelope of 500 million CFAF represents a doubling of the previous edition’s 250 million CFAF. Officials noted that annual transfers to decentralized local authorities have grown from 58 billion CFAF in 2020 to 158 billion CFAF in 2025, emphasizing the need for higher performance standards among municipal executives.
