Cameroon water infrastructure development
Overview
Camwater is advancing large-scale hydraulic infrastructure projects across Cameroon to increase potable water production and network capacity.
In mid-September 2026, the second phase of a drinking water project spanning nine cities reached 84.25% completion. Funded by the State of Cameroon and the EximBank of China, this 71.86 billion FCFA program targets cities including Maroua, Garoua, Garoua-Boulaï, Yabassi, and Dschang. The initiative aims to increase daily production to 42,700 m³ and extend networks by over 250 kilometers, with progressive commissioning expected by late February 2027.
By late September 2026, Camwater initiated the partial technical commissioning of the Japoma drinking water production station extension and rehabilitation project. This milestone added an initial 20,000 m³ of potable water per day to the Douala network, specifically targeting the East and North networks. The Japoma site is expected to eventually reach a daily production of 68,000 m³, contributing to a total site capacity of 123,000 m³/day.
