Campeche food sovereignty initiative

Overview

The government of Campeche launched the ‘Plan Campeche para la Soberanía Alimentaria’ to bolster food sovereignty and support local producers. The initiative includes establishing a new pasteurization plant and five collection centers to assist approximately 1,100 dairy producers by reducing reliance on intermediaries and preventing product loss.

To further support the sector, the plan involves deploying 27 specialized technicians to train 877 producers in hygiene and quality standards for integration into the ‘Leche para el Bienestar’ distribution chain. The program also extends support to other agricultural areas, such as providing certified seeds to rice farmers and distributing pasture seeds and shade trees to assist livestock production and soil protection.
