Cancún dentist homicide investigation

Overview

On September 19, 2026, a Cuban dentist named Tomás Medina was fatally shot in the parking lot of Plaza Galerías in downtown Cancún. The victim, owner of the DentalMed clinic, was approached by two armed individuals on a motorcycle who fired a shot to his head at close range. The assailants fled the scene, and the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office Homicide Unit initiated an investigation.

By September 28, authorities arrested two suspects in connection with the homicide. The detainees were identified as 30-year-old Yael, known as ‘El Pelón,’ the alleged perpetrator, and 25-year-old Jordan, a foreign national accused of performing surveillance or ‘halconeo.’

Investigators stated the motive appeared to be passion-based. According to the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), the suspects allegedly planned the attack in an apartment in Region 98. To confirm the victim's location, Yael reportedly entered the dental clinic posing as a patient. The investigation indicates the victim was shot seven times with a 9mm caliber weapon as he approached his vehicle.
