Canoe Slalom World Cup in Spain

The Canoe Slalom World Cup in La Seu d’Urgell, Spain, featured high-level competition in the C1 category.

In the women’s C1 event, Brazil’s Ana Sátila secured the gold medal with a time of 103.85 seconds, finishing 0.70 seconds ahead of Spain’s Miren Lazkano. Sátila’s victory marked her first gold of the current season and earned her points toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic rankings. Despite a difficult qualifying round where she placed 21st, she improved in the semifinals and maintained composure in the final despite a penalty for touching a gate. Miren Lazkano took silver, while the Czech Republic’s Tereza Kneblova earned bronze with a time of 104.64 seconds.

Sátila’s sister, Omira Estácia, also competed in the C1 category, finishing 18th in the semifinals. The event held personal significance for Sátila, who shared the achievement with her family following the loss of her father in March. Her performance in Spain represents a successful return to the international podium following a period of personal and professional hurdles, including technical difficulties during the World Championships in July.

In the men’s C1 event, Miquel Travé won gold with a time of 89.08 seconds and no penalties. He narrowly defeated Slovenia’s Ziga Lin Hocevar by a margin of 35 hundredths of a second, while Olympic champion Nicolas Gestin finished in third place. Travé noted that winning at home helped him secure third place in the overall standings after a season of adaptation challenges. Although Miren Lazkano recorded the fastest descent in the women’s final with a time of 100.55 seconds, four seconds in penalties prevented her from taking the top spot.
