Capybara introductions and births in international zoos

Overview

Capybaras are being introduced to new zoo habitats across several countries. In late September, the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra, Australia, established a new South American precinct featuring three one-year-old brothers. Simultaneously, Drusillas Park in Sussex, United Kingdom, welcomed a young capybara named Rupert from Belgium to join two females.

By late October, Zoo Bucharest in Romania reported the arrival of four capybara pups, approximately four months old, marking the second generation born at the facility.
