Caraș-Severin educational network restructuring
Overview
The educational landscape in Caraș-Severin County is undergoing significant restructuring for the 2026–2027 school year. The regional school network, comprising 115 legal educational units and 269 affiliated structures, is facing a reduction of 14 units. This includes several kindergartens and primary schools across locations such as Reșița, Bocșa, Slatina Nera, and Ilova.
In addition to closures, 18 educational situations involve student relocation due to ongoing rehabilitation and modernization projects. These construction works, which are expected to continue through 2027 or early 2028, affect various sites including Vărădia, Lupac, and Carașova.
To mitigate the impact of these changes and support families in rural areas, the Caraș-Severin County Council has increased commuting subsidies. For students traveling between 1 and 50 kilometers to localities without public transport, the subsidy will rise from 0.61 lei to 0.88 lei per kilometer.
