Casablanca cybercrime and NARSA impersonation arrests
Overview
Police in Casablanca arrested two men, aged 23 and 28, for their involvement in a sophisticated fraudulent scheme. The suspects allegedly used phishing tactics to impersonate the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), sending SMS messages to victims claiming they had unpaid traffic violations. These messages directed individuals to a fraudulent electronic portal designed to mimic the official NARSA website to collect payments.
Beyond the impersonation scam, investigations revealed the suspects were involved in international telecommunications piracy. They reportedly used specialized information systems to intercept national networks, converting international calls into local ones to exploit price differences.
During searches in Casablanca and Settat, authorities seized various electronic devices, a laptop, dozens of SIM cards, and top-up cards. The National Judicial Police Brigade is continuing its investigation into the full extent of the criminal activities.
