Casablanca-Settat legislative election preparations

Political activity is intensifying in Morocco’s Casablanca-Settat region ahead of legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. Candidates have begun filing for leadership roles, with some focusing on professional competence and others addressing concerns regarding low voter turnout and declining registration numbers.

As the election approaches, authorities have issued directives to prevent the misuse of public property, state institutions, and religious sites for political propaganda to ensure electoral integrity. Tensions have emerged regarding the potential use of communal facilities, such as the Al-Makansa sports stadium, for partisan activities. In response, some political competitors have started documenting social media content through judicial officers to prepare for potential legal challenges or appeals.

The scale of the upcoming vote involves 16 local constituencies competing for 57 seats in the House of Representatives. Competition is particularly high in districts such as Casablanca-Anfa, where 20 lists are vying for four seats, as well as Fida-Merre Sultan and Ben M'sik.

New concerns have surfaced regarding electoral brokers attempting to influence voters. Reports indicate that certain intermediaries are leveraging personal connections to mobilize voters for specific candidates, occasionally demanding significant financial sums. Consequently, internal affairs departments in the Casablanca-Settat provinces have alerted authorities to monitor the electoral atmosphere and prevent illegal attempts to influence voter will.
