Castilla-La Mancha sustainability and consumption programs

Overview

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha has introduced several initiatives focused on sustainability and responsible consumption.

On September 16, 2026, the government launched the ‘Practical Guide for the Development of Sustainable Events’. Developed by the Directorate General for Circular Economy and Agenda 2030, the guide provides frameworks for water and energy management, waste prevention, and carbon footprint measurement based on the UNE-ISO 20121:2024 standard. Minister of Sustainable Development Mercedes Gómez noted that the goal is to turn sustainability into a “practical tool for daily decision-making.”

Following this, on September 20, 2026, the government announced the regional phase of the ‘Consumópolis’ school contest for the 2026-2027 academic year. Now in its twenty-second edition, the competition encourages students in primary, secondary, and vocational training to design projects centered on responsible consumption through virtual tours and pedagogical tests.
