Castilla y León agricultural and livestock developments

In the Castilla y León region of Spain, recent reports have highlighted demographic and economic challenges within the agricultural sector. Data indicates a structural aging issue among Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) subsidy recipients, with 32.72% of recipients being over the age of 65 and only 0.75% under the age of 25. Additionally, the sector shows a significant gender imbalance, with men accounting for the majority of aid recipients.

In response to regional needs, the government has announced a 2 million euro subsidy program to support the breeding and registration of purebred livestock to preserve genetic heritage. Concurrently, the regional Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Affairs, and Environmental Policy, Joaquín Antonio Pino, has proposed the creation of a sanitary emergency unit. This proposal, developed following discussions with veterinary unions, aims to improve technical capacity for rapid responses to animal health threats and advocates for a unified national command structure for sanitary emergencies.
