Cat abandonment incidents in Germany

Overview

Authorities in Germany are investigating multiple incidents of cat abandonment and animal cruelty.

Initially, nine kittens were found abandoned in a taped cardboard box near the edge of a forest in Wiehl-Morkepütz. The animals, estimated to be twelve weeks old, were taken to the Koppelweide animal shelter for quarantine and medical care.

Subsequent investigations revealed broader cases of neglect. In Maschen, 48 cats—many suspected to be from an illegal breeding operation—were rescued from a trailer left in direct sunlight, an incident that resulted in the deaths of two kittens. Additionally, police near Wildenrath discovered 17 cats abandoned in transport boxes at a local airfield. Law enforcement continues to seek information regarding these incidents.
