Cathedral LED lighting installations

Overview

Historical cathedrals in Puebla, Mexico, and Tudela, Spain, have implemented new LED architectural lighting systems to enhance their monuments and improve energy efficiency.

In Puebla, the Cathedral debuted a system featuring 460 LED light points as part of the ‘Puebla Brilla’ strategy. The project, led by the local Mayor and the Archdiocese, follows National Institute of Anthropology and History guidelines to highlight the Renaissance structure without altering its historical stone.

In Tudela, the Cathedral of Santa María la Mayor replaced an old high-pressure sodium vapor system with 112 LED luminaires. This renovation, a collaboration between Fundación Iberdrola España, the Cathedral Chapter, and the City Council, reduced power consumption by over 36% while using warm light to respect the monument’s historical character and highlight specific Romanesque-Gothic reliefs.
