Cedevita Olimpija basketball season preparations

Overview

Cedevita Olimpija is preparing for its upcoming basketball season, which includes domestic competition, the ABA League, and an expanded 32-team EuroCup format.

Head coach Zvezdan Mitrović indicated that due to budget constraints and Slovenian tax legislation, the club is prioritizing the development of young, unproven players over experienced veterans. As the season begins, the team faces a challenging EuroCup opener against Burgos in Spain. The squad is managing roster changes and early injuries following a loss in the Slovenian Supercup. Captain Jaka Blažič and player Matthew Hurt have noted the need for high motivation and hard work to adapt to the team’s younger, more international lineup.

Blažič described Burgos as a “physical team that utilizes high-tempo play and transitions,” while Mitrović highlighted the Spanish side’s tactical flexibility. Following these preparations, the club secured its first ABA League victory of the 2026/27 season, defeating Cibona 89-76 at Tivoli. Matthew Hurt led the scoring with 21 points. The team is now shifting focus to its first home EuroCup game at Stožice Arena against Hapoel Jerusalem, a side Mitrović identified as one of the “strongest and most physically capable teams” in the competition.
