Overview

The City of Siena and Acquedotto del Fiora organized a joint commemorative ceremony on September 25 to mark the centenary of the Vico Alto reservoir. The event honored the site’s historical and scientific heritage through institutional speeches and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking the 1926–2026 period.

Inaugurated in 1926, the reservoir was designed by Luciano Conti and later modified by Mario Vanni. The facility has a history of resilience, having undergone reconstruction between 1946 and 1948 following significant damage during the German retreat in June 1944.

Today, the infrastructure remains a vital component of the local water system, managing water from the Vivo d’Orcia springs. It supports a distribution network of approximately 280 kilometers, serving roughly 22,000 users and distributing over 5.5 million cubic meters of water annually.
