Central Asian economic investment initiatives
Overview
Central Asian nations are pursuing diverse strategies to attract foreign capital and expand industrial capacity. In Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon has inaugurated a new fish processing facility in Vahdat, operated by Bahor LLC. The company aims to increase its fish export capacity to 300 tonnes by the end of 2026 and reach 1,000 tonnes annually by 2027. Having already exported frozen fish to Russia, the company is currently negotiating market entry into Europe, specifically targeting Hungary and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking partnerships with the United Arab Emirates and Gulf nations for projects involving mineral exploration, renewable energy, and water resources. Officials have highlighted the country’s natural assets, such as rivers, glaciers, and mineral springs, as key drivers for strategic economic cooperation.
In Uzbekistan, the government is leveraging the Turkic Investment Fund (TIF) to secure financing for development. Following a meeting in Tashkent involving representatives from Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye, discussions focused on prioritizing investments in infrastructure, energy, industrial cooperation, and logistics to strengthen regional economic ties.
